Motorists heading through Khorfakkan should be prepared for some alternate route finding this week, as local authorities close one of the territory’s main thoroughfares for upgrades and improvements.
The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) stated that Ali bin Abi Taleb Street will be closed to traffic on Monday, August 24, through Saturday, August 29, in order to carry out the works.
The road from Hayawa Square to Al Majlis Al Adabi Square in Al Bardi 4 was closed to traffic from the northbound direction.
The authority explained that the works are necessary and expected to improve the road, facilitate traffic, and enhance safety in the eastern coastal city.
To minimize disruption during the six-day project, transit planners have implemented a comprehensive detour strategy. Commuters navigating near the designated work zone are being directed onto adjacent internal streets within Al Bardi 4.
The authority published a detailed traffic management map highlighting the restricted corridor in red while illustrating the recommended bypasses in green. Residents and commercial vehicles can still access local destinations in Al Bardi 4 via the secondary road network, depending on their final stopping points.
Transport representatives urged all drivers to exercise caution, observe newly posted signage, and adhere strictly to marked speed limits near heavy machinery. Motorists were specifically cautioned against encroaching into lane buffers set aside for construction crews and field personnel.
According to the SRTA, maintaining disciplined adherence to the official diversions will safeguard field workers while ensuring a smooth, uninterrupted flow of vehicle traffic throughout the urban center during the maintenance period.
The current project forms part of Sharjah’s broader highway modernization initiatives designed to bolster regional infrastructure and support seamless movement across residential and commercial sectors in the eastern emirate.
