Abu Dhabi Police Reminds Drivers They Can Keep Impounded Cars at Home for Dh15 a Day

Abu Dhabi Police Reminds Drivers They Can Keep Impounded Cars at Home for Dh15 a Day

Abu Dhabi Police have announced the restoration of their smart impoundment scheme, which allows drivers to keep an impounded vehicle at their own home or other desired location instead of taking it to the police station.

In return for keeping the car at the specified location under their ownership, motorists will be charged Dh15 for every day.

The scheme is designed to help motorists whose vehicles had to be impounded due to traffic violations by giving them an option to keep their cars without going through the process of bringing it to police stations.

Instead, those who want to take advantage of this offer will be required to have a tracking device installed in their vehicles while it is at their disposal or another location of their choice, provided that police can confirm that the vehicle has remained at the location stated.

To qualify, applicants must have committed a violation that legally requires impoundment, sign a declaration form accepting the service’s terms, and either appear in person or send a representative carrying an official power of attorney. Applicants must also submit a valid Emirates ID alongside the daily payment.

Requests are handled entirely online through the Abu Dhabi government’s Tamm platform. Drivers register or sign in to the site, navigate to the “Drive & Transport” section, then select “Fines & Violations” followed by “Home Impounding for Vehicles.”

From there, applicants fill in personal details, including their name, phone number and traffic file number, to complete the process.

Once the request is submitted, applicants receive confirmation via SMS or email confirming that the smart device will be installed.

Police say the tracking mechanism is designed purely to verify the vehicle’s location, giving authorities oversight without requiring drivers to be separated from their cars during the impoundment period.

The initiative reflects Abu Dhabi’s wider push toward digitising traffic and licensing services, reducing the need for in-person visits to police stations or impound yards while still enforcing the emirate’s traffic regulations.
