Police credit proactive investigations, AI and public awareness campaigns as fraud, cybercrime and economic crime decline across the emirate
Dubai: Dubai Police has recorded a decline in several major crime indicators during the first half of the year, reflecting the effectiveness of proactive policing, advanced technologies and intelligence led operations in strengthening public safety across the emirate.
The results were reviewed during a performance evaluation meeting chaired by Major General Hareb Mohammad Al Shamsi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief for Criminal Affairs, who assessed the performance of the General Department of Criminal Investigation and reviewed operational achievements, crime trends and strategic initiatives during the second quarter of the year.
Crime indicators continue to improve
Major General Al Shamsi reviewed the security and criminal landscape during the first half of the year, comparing the results with the same period last year.
The presentation showed a decline in fraud, cybercrime, economic crime and other priority crime categories, highlighting the impact of integrated field operations, proactive investigations, advanced technologies and close coordination between specialised units and partner entities. The results were further supported by awareness campaigns designed to educate the public about emerging criminal methods and prevention measures.
Strengthening the fight against fraud
The meeting also reviewed the performance of the Anti-Fraud Centre, including the volume of reports received, crime patterns, methods used by fraudsters and the latest challenges associated with financial and online fraud.
As part of ongoing efforts to curb the misuse of social media for criminal activity, Dubai Police shut down 103 fraudulent social media accounts during the second quarter of the year, helping protect the public from increasingly sophisticated online scams.
Intelligence led operations
Major General Al Shamsi was also briefed on the results of field operations conducted during the second quarter and compared with the first quarter, highlighting the achievements of specialised teams in combating crime, strengthening operational readiness and enhancing proactive policing.
The meeting also reviewed a number of criminal initiatives, smart transformation projects and the growing use of artificial intelligence to support criminal investigations, analyse crime data and strengthen decision making, enabling Dubai Police to shift from responding to crime towards anticipating and preventing it.
A proactive security strategy
Major General Al Shamsi said the positive results and decline in crime indicators reflect the efficiency of Dubai Police’s security system and the dedication of specialised teams.
He noted that the achievements are the result of targeted field operations, proactive investigations, continuous public awareness campaigns and the effective integration of modern technologies and artificial intelligence into policing operations.
He added that Dubai Police will continue to develop its criminal investigation capabilities through a proactive approach based on analysing crime indicators, anticipating emerging threats and investing in advanced technologies and specialised talent.
Major General Al Shamsi also stressed that tackling emerging crimes, particularly fraud and cybercrime, requires strong cooperation between law enforcement agencies, community members and public and private sector institutions. He urged the public to remain vigilant, avoid sharing personal or banking information with untrusted parties and report any suspicious activity immediately.
