Sheikh Zayed Road’s Landmark Toyota Building Set for 2027 Demolition

The Toyota Building in Dubai is going to be torn down in 2027. This building is on Sheikh Zayed Road. It is a well known place to live in Dubai. People have been living there for more than fifty years.

The people who take care of the Toyota Building said it is true that it will be torn down. This news came out after people posted videos in the media. These videos showed people packing their things and talking about their lives in the Toyota Building. A lot of people were asking what was going to happen to the building.

Someone, from Nasser Rashid Lootah Real Estate also known as NRL Group said that the Toyota Building will be torn down in 2027. They did not say exactly when it would happen.

Beige high-rise with a Toyota sign stands on a busy street, with modern glass skyscrapers rising in the background and cars in the foreground.

Tenants holding valid rental agreements have been told they can remain in their units until December 2026. That has left some residents puzzled over why others were already vacating ahead of schedule.

According to the property agent, those departing early were largely occupants whose electricity had been disconnected by authorities, a measure tied to a number of partitioned apartments within the complex. The precise scope of the disconnections, and the regulatory action behind them, remains unclear, with queries submitted to the relevant authorities still pending response.

Built in 1974, when Sheikh Zayed Road was still a sparsely developed stretch near the First Roundabout, the 15-storey tower rose roughly 65 metres and ranked among the earliest structures in the area.

It earned its popular nickname from an illuminated Toyota logo mounted on its rooftop starting in 1981, a fixture that became a navigational landmark for motorists for close to four decades.

The sign was taken down in 2018 once its advertising agreement lapsed, only for Toyota UAE to reinstall it in June 2022 following a four-year absence, restoring a piece of the city’s skyline that many residents had grown attached to.

Home to a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, the building has anchored a stretch of Sheikh Zayed Road since well before Dubai’s high-rise boom.

Its scheduled demolition in 2027 will mark the end of that era, even as current leaseholders retain the right to stay through the end of next year.
