ABU DHABI – The UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science is working hard to get young researchers, atmospheric scientists and engineers involved in finding new technological solutions for the world’s water problems. This is a part of what they want to achieve.
There is a lot of pressure on water supplies in areas because of the growing population and crazy weather changes. So the UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science is putting scientists at the front of the effort to develop new ways to change the weather.
They are making sure that young people are included in their research projects by requiring teams to involve university students and new researchers in their work. The UAE Research Program, for Rain Enhancement Science wants to make sure that these young people are part of the teams that are working on the projects.

Since its inception in 2015, the program has grown into a leading international hub for atmospheric research, synthesizing multidisciplinary expertise across meteorology, aviation engineering, environmental monitoring, and advanced data analytics.
Under the leadership of Program Director Dr. Ahmed Al Kamali, UAEREP prioritizes seamless knowledge transfer and specialized field training to prepare a new generation of researchers for impactful climate interventions.
To bridge theoretical academic learning with real-world scientific applications, UAEREP has forged extensive research partnerships with prestigious international institutions.
Emerging talents gain direct experience through specialized exchange programs and joint studies with world-renowned research centers, including the University of Reading in the United Kingdom, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA), the Center for Western Weather and Water Extremes at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the University of Colorado Boulder, Wuhan University, the Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), and the University of Hyogo.
The initiative aligns with broader regional objectives to address severe freshwater deficits through innovation, leveraging advanced technologies such as specialized nanomaterials and artificial intelligence to optimize cloud seeding operations.
By empowering young researchers to contribute directly to these operational breakthroughs, the program ensures that long-term water management strategies remain innovative, resilient, and adaptive.
Beyond collaborative research, the program maintains dedicated educational platforms designed to cultivate global youth engagement. The organization’s flagship gathering, the International Rain Enhancement Forum (IREF), offers dedicated poster sessions for early-career scientists to present empirical findings to world-leading experts.
Simultaneously, the interactive Rain Enhancement Hub webinar series provides students with continuous direct access to emerging trends and unresolved scientific questions in rain enhancement research.
Through these structured training pathways, internships, and collaborative field experiments, the UAE continues to build an enduring global network of scientific innovators equipped to turn complex atmospheric studies into practical, scalable water management solutions.
