UAE Economy Expands 3% in First Quarter of 2026, GDP Reaches 2 Billion

The United Arab Emirates maintained its steady course of economic growth with gross domestic product rising by 3 percent compared to the same period of 2025 to reach Dh485 billion ($132 billion), reports said on Thursday.

Analysts pointed to continued expansion of non-oil sectors and the government’s determination to achieve economic diversification. Non-oil industries continue to be the backbone of the Emirate’s economic growth as they contributed to the consistent GDP growth despite the country’s ongoing efforts to reduce its dependence on oil revenues.

Sectors such as trade, industry, financial services, transport, tourism, and technology were among the main contributors to economic growth and have been performing consistently well during the first quarter of the year, making the UAE one of the fastest-growing diversified economies in the region.

The latest GDP figures come as the UAE continues to implement economic reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment, encouraging private sector growth and strengthening its competitiveness on the global stage. Initiatives under the ‘We the UAE 2031’ vision and the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33) have supported business activity, innovation and infrastructure development, helping create new opportunities across multiple sectors.

Officials said the economy’s performance demonstrates the success of policies designed to foster sustainable growth while expanding the contribution of knowledge-based industries. The country has continued to invest in artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, logistics and digital transformation, areas expected to play an increasingly important role in future economic expansion.

Strong domestic consumption, rising tourism numbers and continued growth in international trade have also contributed to the positive economic outlook. The UAE remains a preferred destination for global businesses and investors, supported by its strategic location, modern infrastructure and business-friendly regulatory environment.

Economists expect non-oil activities to remain the main engine of growth throughout the remainder of 2026, with government investment and private sector participation likely to support further expansion. While energy markets continue to influence overall economic performance, the UAE’s diversified growth model has strengthened its resilience against external market fluctuations.

The latest GDP data underscores the country’s continued progress in building a competitive, innovation-led economy capable of sustaining long-term growth while enhancing its status as a leading economic and investment hub in the Middle East.
