UAE Defence Ministry Rolls Out ‘Beladi’ Programme to Groom Emiratis for National Service

The UAE Ministry of Defence has launched a project named “Beladi.” This project is meant to find, teach and get young Emiratis ready for service. It also helps make the country stronger in terms of readiness.

The programme is part of a plan to focus on Emirati people. It is about making young people leaders. It also helps them learn skills and real-life abilities before they start their national service.

People in charge say this is a long-term plan. They want to make the UAE stronger, by developing people in a way. This is not a short training course.

To join Beladi people had to take a Leadership Competency Assessment. This test checked their mind, body and thinking. It also included interviews and real-life tests.

These helped the people who were checking the candidates to match each person with the path. This path was based on their strengths. What they liked doing.

Military personnel in blue camo and desert uniforms exchange a white box during a ceremony, all wearing masks; onlookers seated in the background.

Set to run for 11 months, Beladi forms part of the wider National Service framework. Its debut, or pilot, year features a limited set of specialised tracks, which the Ministry plans to broaden in later phases as the programme matures and national capability priorities evolve.

Training will be delivered by senior officers and instructors drawn from across the UAE Armed Forces, blending classroom-based coursework with practical, field-level application. The aim is to ensure recruits leave the programme not only academically prepared but operationally competent.

Beyond the training period itself, authorities say Beladi is intended to build a lasting bond between participants and the military establishment, feeding into a trained operational reserve force that can be called upon to bolster national readiness when required.

The Ministry has framed the initiative as reinforcing core values of civic duty, national belonging and service, while also enabling the transfer of institutional knowledge across generations of Emirati talent — part of a broader push to keep the country’s human capital aligned with future defence and security needs.
