Huawei’s New MatePad Air Blends Laptop-Grade Power With a Paper-Like Display

Huawei presents the latest MatePad Air 12 “, an innovative product that will be a perfect compromise between cellular phones, laptops, and tablets.

The device is designed for creative workers and entrepreneurs who want to get more done in the modern world.

The key to the new product’s technologies is the use of artificial intelligence in all of its essential components, not only in the form of a virtual assistant.

The tablet uses AI-driven office software WPSoft to allow its users to create content, develop outlines, and generate slides directly from their documents.

Additionally, the application’s built-in AI assistant helps users with spreadsheet operations such as calculations, formatting, and entering data by voice.

It can also extract essential information from lengthy PDF files and present it in the form of bullet points and outlines. Finally, all of the software’s components work together to provide seamless multi-device synchronization.

The new tablet’s notes-taking application has been endowed with speech-to-text functionality that enables it to convert lectures and meetings’ recordings into structured texts. They, in turn, can be supplemented with hand-written notes and annotations.

For extended work sessions, the tablet pairs with an optional Smart Magnetic Keyboard weighing just 308 grams. It offers stain-resistant material, 1.5mm key travel, and desktop-style shortcut support, aiming to replicate a laptop typing experience.

On design, the MatePad Air weighs 509 grams and measures 5.3mm thick, wrapped in a metal shell finished using an eco-friendly electrophoretic coating process for a distinctive, angle-shifting texture.

Its 12-inch OLED “PaperMatte” display offers 2.8K resolution, 1,200 nits of peak brightness, and an adaptive refresh rate between 30Hz and 144Hz, designed to reduce glare and mimic the feel of writing on paper. Bezels around the screen measure just 4.69mm, with a 12-megapixel front camera embedded without a notch.

Battery life is rated at up to 16 hours of local HDR video playback, supported by a 10,100mAh cell. Huawei’s 66W SuperCharge Turbo technology delivers a 42 percent charge in 30 minutes, with a full charge taking approximately 85 minutes.

The MatePad Air positions Huawei to compete more directly with premium tablets aimed at hybrid work and content creation, a segment that has grown steadily across the UAE and wider Gulf region.
