The United Arab Emirates has transformed into a major global incubator where homegrown culinary ventures originate and scale internationally rather than relying on foreign franchise models, according to Haider Madani, managing partner and co-founder of Mad Room.
Speaking on the evolution of Dubai’s commercial ecosystem, the entrepreneur noted that strong consumer relationships and high market resilience have enabled local food and beverage enterprises to set new competitive standards.
Madani, who relocated from London to the emirate in 2000, initially worked across the regional automotive sector before identifying a gap in the local market for authentic social hubs that bring art, music, and food together.

In February 2019, he launched Cassette, a French-inspired bistro nestled in Al Quoz’s The Courtyard creative district. The venue established an immediate following among residents seeking a community-oriented space for corporate meetings, daily dining, and remote work.
The business demonstrated significant adaptability by weathering severe industry headwinds during the COVID-19 pandemic shortly after its debut.
Madani credited the sustained patron support and local brand loyalty for helping independent operators navigate broader economic volatility. This client connection has fueled the growth of the brand over seven years, establishing it as a fixture within the local dining landscape.
Reflecting on the broader commercial climate, Madani emphasized that building an original concept from the ground up in the UAE carries international prestige due to the market’s high operational standards. He projected that incoming foreign direct investment into the country will continue expanding as international investors recognize the region’s economic stability and modern infrastructure.
Moving forward, Mad Room aims to expand its portfolio by developing additional community-focused hospitality spaces across the region.
