UAE Surgeons Warn Women Against ‘Dangerous’ XS-XL Cosmetic Surgery Trend

Plastic surgeons in the United Arab Emirates are telling women to stay away from a new trend in cosmetic surgery. This trend mixes weight loss with big body changes. Doctors said that this can cause health problems and make people have unrealistic ideas about beauty.

Experts call this trend “XS-XL” which means women take medicines like Wegovy and Mounjaro to lose a lot of weight quickly. Then they get breast implants and much bigger enhancements. Even though more people want to change their bodies but on the other side the doctors are worried. They say losing weight fast and having surgeries at the same time can be very dangerous.

According to Dubai-based plastic surgeons, severe weight loss can reduce skin elasticity, weaken tissue and slow the body’s healing process. As a result, patients may face complications including wound separation, implant-related problems, poor scarring and infections. Doctors also say rapid dieting may contribute to nutritional deficiencies and anaemia, making surgery and recovery more challenging.

Surgeons have also raised concerns over the influence of social media and celebrity culture, which they believe are encouraging patients to pursue exaggerated body proportions. Some clinics have reportedly received requests for highly invasive procedures, including rib removal to create a narrower waist and donor-fat injections to increase body volume. Medical professionals stress that these procedures carry significant risks and should only be considered after thorough clinical evaluation.

Health experts emphasise that cosmetic surgery should always be tailored to an individual’s anatomy and overall health rather than driven by online trends. They say responsible surgeons routinely decline procedures when expectations are unrealistic or when patients are medically unsuitable for surgery, prioritising long-term wellbeing over aesthetic goals.

The warning comes as demand for cosmetic procedures continues to rise across the UAE, with advances in surgical techniques making treatments more widely available. Specialists, however, stress that successful cosmetic outcomes depend not only on the procedure itself but also on careful planning, realistic expectations and a patient’s physical readiness for surgery.

Doctors are encouraging anyone considering cosmetic surgery to seek advice from qualified, licensed specialists, discuss potential risks in detail and avoid making decisions based solely on trends promoted through social media. They say a personalised treatment plan focused on health and safety remains the most effective way to achieve lasting and natural-looking results.
