One month after starting passenger services Etihad Rail is already changing how people move around the UAE. Many people are using the train for their trips and others are going on journeys to see different places in the country. The number of people using the service is increasing, which shows how important this project is for the future of the UAE. In addition to making travel simpler, Etihad Rail is expected to help tourism grow, help businesses and make transport better, across the country.
Since the service started trains running between Abu Dhabi and Fujairah have often had numbers of passengers with many trips completely full. The rail connection has made the trip between the two emirates take more than two hours giving people who live there visitors and business travelers a quicker and easier choice compared to driving on the roads. Additional stations are also expected to open in the coming months, further expanding the network’s reach.
The impact has extended beyond passenger transport. Hotels in Fujairah have reported increased interest from weekend visitors, while businesses such as car rental companies and tourism operators have benefited from higher visitor numbers. The railway is also making day trips easier, encouraging more residents to explore destinations across the UAE without relying on private vehicles.

Etihad Rail forms part of a broader national vision to improve connectivity, reduce road congestion and support sustainable economic growth. The wider rail network is designed to link key cities, ports, industrial zones and logistics hubs across the country, strengthening supply chains while creating new opportunities for trade and investment. The long-term project is expected to generate thousands of jobs and contribute significantly to the UAE’s economic diversification efforts.
Future phases of the passenger network will connect 11 cities and regions across the UAE, with seamless links to existing public transport systems. A planned high-speed rail service between Abu Dhabi and Dubai is also expected to further reduce travel times, reinforcing rail as a key component of the country’s modern transport infrastructure.
The success of the first month has demonstrated strong public demand for rail travel in the UAE. With expanding routes, improved connectivity and growing economic benefits, Etihad Rail is emerging as more than just a transport project—it is helping redefine mobility, boost domestic tourism and support the country’s vision of a smarter, more sustainable future.
